Vanessa  Marie Holmes (née Scales)  made her heavenly transition on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 10, 1959, to the late Walter Scales and Marion Scales.

Vanessa was educated from kindergarten through middle school in the Philadelphia  school system. She attended and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School. After high school, she attended Temple University and then enrolled into a nursing school where she completed her course of studies and received her nursing degree. She landed her first job at Einstein Medical Center Hospital.

As a child, Vanessa and her family attended Christlike Pleasant Green Faith Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA, under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert Small. Besides attending Sunday morning service, she was very active in her church. She attended Sunday school, Wednesday night prayer, sang on the youth choir,  and completed the Sunday Morning program, under the direction of Mrs. Helen M. Small.  It was at Christlike, where she met the love of her life at 12 years old, Tyler Robert Holmes, who just so happened to be Reverend Robert Small's grandson.

On May 15, 1982, Vanessa and Tyler joined in holy matrimony at that same church. From their union, two children were born Tasha and Tyler II.  As an army wife, she traveled to various places with her husband. From Panama to Germany, she was by her husband's side until the day he transitioned on March 15, 2024.

Her husband, children, and grandchildren meant the world to Vanessa. She would do everything she could for them. There wasn't a day that went by that they didn't feel her love, but her love and light and generosity didn't stop there.

Vanessa was a lover of people. She worked in the nursing field for over 30 years because she lived to help others. It was her passion and her purpose. She was God's hands and feet on this Earth. If anyone needed the love of a mother, she was there to provide. She had a listening ear and a loving heart with open arms, loaded with the best hugs ever. Although she only gave birth to two children, many called her mom.

Vanessa leaves to cherish her love and memories, her daughter Tasha and her son Tyler II, two grand children, Daniel and Ty'Jay; siblings: Pamela Robinson, Leon (Sandy), Cameron Scales and one cousin/sister, Ilene Mansfield, two sister-in-laws Emma Henderson and Chandra Simpkins, a dear friend Charles and Donna Gold, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, and her church family at Faith and Hope, Norristown, PA.

The service will be held at Immanuel Church, 1260 Welsh Rd, Lansdale, PA 19446 on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
