With humble acceptance of God's will we announce the passing of Vivian E. Nutter.
Vivian E. Nutter, age 93 of Philadelphia, PA, passed away in her home on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Born in Philadelphia to the late Herbert James and Lucy (nee: Fields) Carey. Vivian graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls. She was dedicated to raising her family. She ended her phlebotomist training to pour her love into every moment spent with her children. Each birthday and holiday, she made it a point to celebrate her loved ones in a way that made them feel genuinely valued and appreciated.
Viv greeted everyone with a smile, making those around her feel welcomed and valued. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. A talented seamstress, Vivian found joy in sewing clothing for herself and her daughters. Vivian was a devout Catholic who volunteered at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, doing anything the Church asked of her.
In addition to her family life, Vivian served as a Commandress of the Eastern Star, where she exemplified leadership, compassion, and dedication to her community. Her commitment to service and ability to bring people together made a lasting impact on the lives of many, and her legacy will continue to inspire.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, Harry S. Nutter and her daughter, Lisa Nutter-Rodgers. She is survived by her loving daughters, Valerie Nutter-Lawrence and Christine Nutter, her precious grandchild, Devon Rodgers, and beloved son-in-law Mark Lawrence. She is also survived by a host of family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vivian's visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM pm on Friday, September 12, 2025 at at St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church, 1350 Vernon Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19150. A memorial mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Vivian will be laid to rest following Mass nearby at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vivian's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America .
