Obituary for William J. Berkley in Cape Cod Times:
William J. "Bub" Berkley, of Yarmouthport, MA, died on Saturday, December 17, 2014, at Cape Cod Hospital after a short illness. He was the Father of late, beloved daughter, Madeleine. Bill is survived by sisters, Catherine Verna and Regina Jeffers, brother, Lawrence Berkley, many nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Joan.
Bill was born on July 22, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA, the first son of a large Irish family, was a devout Catholic and a devoted Father and loyal friend. He graduated from Oklahoma University, served in the Navy and worked afterward as an air traffic controller around the country and the world. He was an avid reader and writer, with a passion for social justice. He enjoyed aviation, politics, cooking (classes) and stimulating conversation. He said of himself, "I live in the future. Not the present, not the past. Perhaps that''s because of the work I did. I routinely said something in the present which was designed to bring about a desired result in the future, that is, two airplanes passing each other without exchanging paint."
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a Memorial Mass to be said at Sacred Heart Chapel in Yarmouthport, MA, on Saturday, January 31, 2014 at 4:00 pm.
