William (Bill) J. Harter, 71 passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Bill is survived by cousins and many friends. He worked for 26 years as a machinist at Markel Corporation in Plymouth Meeting. He loved his job, and he was very happy to be working at Markel and working with his co-workers. In his early years Bill travelled the world, going to India, Iran, Afghanistan, Morocco and Iraq often by backpacking via buses, railroads, minivan or unconventional means such as a cargo ship. Bill''s avocations included restoring cars, especially VW''s and old trucks; his last project, was a coal truck. Bill also loved to visit historical places, such as museums, national parks, as well as the Jersey Shore, railroad museums, beer breweries and flea markets. Other hobbies included vegetable gardening, making soups, and searching for and collecting old bottles. Animals were important to Bill as well, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill''s memory to the ASPCA. Bill was a loyal, honest friend and relative, and he will be missed. May his memory be eternal. Relatives and friends are invited to a calling hour on Saturday, April 30th beginning at 10am at Kirk and Nice Funeral Home, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462, followed by his memorial service at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in William''s memory to be made to ASPCA. Internment George Washington Memorial Park.
