IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William E.
"Bud" Quinley, Sr
May 24, 1924 – January 31, 2022
On May 22, 2016, Bill's life changed in an instant. His beloved wife Betty of 72 years went to be with the Lord. With a wounded heart he carried on as best he could. Through his faith and devotion to his Lord and Savior, he knew he would one day be reunited with Betty. On January 31, 2022, Bill went to stand in the glory of God and now, he and Betty are once again together for eternity.
Born on May 24, 1924, in Philadelphia, Buddy, as he was known then, was a handsome child with blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Always a hard worker, at the age of 12, he worked with his father and brother to help make ends meet during the depression. In addition to his father and brother, he was showered with love by his mother and sister.
While driving a coal truck to Pottsville he met Betty who was working as a waitress in a small truck stop in Limerick while they were still teenagers. They married on July 10, 1943, and shortly thereafter Bill went to serve his country during World War II in the European Theatre. While serving, both he and Betty held onto their faith and love and dreamed of their future together. They shared the story of how they ran to each other through a field upon his discharge and the joy of that reunion as they embraced each other and vowed they would never again be separated.
Together Bill and Betty had eight children and Bill worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer starting as a "fly boy" and eventually rose to the position of Pressroom Manager.
The family grew and he leaves behind his eight children, eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. His family meant everything to him, and he enjoyed being surrounded by them. He also shared his love with his canine companion Chelsea who remained loyally by his side until his passing.
His faith in the Lord was evident as he followed the example of Jesus by being a good and faithful servant. An extremely generous man, he always gave to anyone who was in need. Children meant so much to him and he gave to many charities to help in efforts to ease the pain and suffering any child endured. He served his Lord as an Elder of the Leverington Presbyterian Church and dutifully served in whatever capacity was needed. He took great joy in pulling Leverington's float with his truck each year in the Independence Day Parade to share the good news of the gospel to the community.
The joy he brought to the lives of his family is beyond words. He was an amazing, remarkable husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and servant of the Lord. His family's love for him is never ending and now, we, his family, must carry on without him. We can only imagine the reunion he had with Betty as they ran toward each other when they met in heaven. With wounded hearts we carry on as he did, resting in the knowledge he will be waiting to welcome us in the love of heaven one day.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 9:00 AM followed by his funeral service at 10:00 AM at Leverington Church, 6301 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Burial will be private.
