Moore
July 14, 1927 – January 25, 2025
William Joseph Moore, age 97, beloved husband of Paula Marie (Miles) Moore with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage, passed away on January 25, 2025.
Born on July 14, 1927 and raised in Philadelphia, Bill was the son of the late William Joseph and Ivy Florence (Reece) Moore. He made his way to the Glen Oaks section of the Village of Chews Landing in Laurel Springs, NJ where he raised his family and called home for 55 years.
He was drafted into the US Army on September 6, 1945, and served with the 41st Ordnance Depot Company in the Panama Canal as a Guard Patrolman. He received his honorable discharge on December 15, 1946, achieving rank of Private First Class.
At the age of 12, he began working in a carpet mill and ended his working career retiring from the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1992 where he received many Safe Driver Awards.
In his early adult life he was active with the Boy Scouts of America where he received many accolades. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a proud member of the Teamsters.
Bill had an appreciation of motorcycles and older cars, enjoyed good music and dancing, watching westerns and cheering on the Eagles, Phillies and Army Black Nights football team. He spent much of his time tracing his family ancestry reaching back to the early 1800's. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Paula, surviving are his children; William Moore (Holly), Barbara Moore, Michael Moore (Kathy), and Richard Moore (Rosemary). His grandchildren; Sarah Moore, Stephen Fisher, and Connor Moore. He is predeceased by his siblings Doris Moore, Shirley Moore Fink (Fred) and Robert Moore. He is survived by his siblings; LaVerna Moore Hanczar (Hank), Carole Moore and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Carey officiating in the Heritage Chapel of George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting. Burial with military honors will follow.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday morning in the chapel.
