Wilmer, 93, formerly of Norwood, passed Aug. 24, 2017, after falling ill late in May. He was born in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia on Sep. 29, 1923, the seventh child, to the late Blanche A. (Hoffman) and Arthur C. Flexer Sr. Preceded in death by 6 siblings Hannah "Anna", Mildred "Moons", Bertha, Arthur Jr. "Otts", Edwin "Ned" and Melvin "Mudge". He graduated from Roxborough High School in February, 1942 and was hired by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a clerk in March, 1942 at Broad Street Station. Inducted into the United States Army the next year, he followed his older brother, Ned into WWII. Ned was killed in action in Normandy, France, in 1944. Wilmer returned home from Europe in 1946. On September 28, 1957, he married his loving wife of 53 years, the late Gladys A. (Sibley) Flexer.
He is survived by a son Edward Flexer Sr. (Sheila) and daughter Carol Parker (John); grandsons Alex "AJ" Iorio, Jamie Iorio, and the light of his life Edward Flexer Jr.; special nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends. Wilmer retired from Amtrak in 1984, after 42 years of dedicated service. He was happiest traveling the highways by car to ride many scenic railways and very much enjoyed the musical entertainment in Nashville, Dollywood and Branson, Missouri. Family was always his priority. He loved spending time down the shore in North Wildwood with all of them and attending family celebrations.
